Hadith 780. (Shahi Bukhari)
Narrated By Nafi': Ibn Umar said, The Prophet said, 'Do the opposite of what the pagans do. Keep the BEARDs and cut the moustaches short.' Whenever Ibn 'Umar performed the Hajj or 'Umra, he used to hold his BEARD with his hand and cut whatever moustaches. Ibn Umar used to cut his moustache so short that the whiteness of his skin (above the upper lip) was visible, and he used to cut (the hair) between his moustaches and his BEARD.

Narrated By Ibn 'Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "Cut the moustaches short and leave the BEARD (as it is)."

Narrated By Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "There will emerge from the East some people who will recite the Qur'an but it will not exceed their throats and who will go out of (renounce) the religion (Islam) as an arrow passes through the game, and they will never come back to it unless the arrow, comes back to the middle of the bow (by itself) (i.e., impossible). The people asked, "What will their signs be?" He said, "Their sign will be the habit of shaving (of their BEARDs). (Fateh Al-Bari, Page 322, Vol. 17th)

Abdullah Bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Trim closely the moustache and let the beard grow.

Hadith 494B. (Shahi Bukhari)
Narrated By Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari: That he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of MUSICal instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."
Now that you have read these ahadith how many of us will follow it especially keeping a beard.
A beard does not affect a person much except that it makes the person feel hot and he sweats more. Most of us even know that keeping a beard is a sunnah but still we do not follow it.
And music.....
According to the last hadith I wrote I think that music is as bad as any of these other sins but many of us ignore this fact and think that as Allah is so Merciful He will forgive us or the Prophet(S) will assure Allah to forgive his ummah but do they think that the Prophet(S) will be able to do it without Allah's leave?
Therefore I request you all to follow these ahadith; fulfilling the sunnah of keeping a beard and refraining from music and as the ulema and scholars are not sure which type of music is allowed (except daff) I would ask you all to refrain from listening to all types of musical instruments. I will give you an example. If you are giving an exam and there is a choice between two questions. You do not completely know the first question but you know the second one and you are sure that if you attempted the second one you will get a full score on it' then which question will you choose? I definitely would choose the second one. Life is also an examination period. You are not sure which musical instruments are allowed thus you do not know the complete answer but if you refrain from music you will be attempting the second question, i.e., you know musical instruments are not allowed and you may be getting a full score for that.
In the Quran when Allah refers to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) he is also referring to us so try to place yourself in the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) position.
