Music

Assalam-o-Alikum!
Here is a hadith about music. Those who have read my previous emails will know that this hadith is being repeated.

Sahih Al-Bukhari
Volume 7
Hadith Number 494B

Narrated Abu Amir or Abu Malik Al Ashari

that he heard the Prophet saying, "From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the
drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the
evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy
them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day
of Resurrection."

This hadith does not say that musical instruments with un-Islamic lyrics so it must be considered that all musical instruments whether used in Islamic or non-Islamic songs are forbidden. I am writing this because there are many Muslim bands which use forbidden musical instruments in their songs, e.g. native deen. I have also heard that Dawud Wharnsby Ali and Yusuf Islam are also using them so I am asking you not to listen to such songs.

And anyways, instead of listening to songs, one can always listen to the recitation of the Holy Quran. Now, that does not mean that I am saying that songs without music are also forbidden. Please do not ignore this. The Quran and the Sunnah are miracles from Allah.

Sahih Al-Bukhari
Volume 9
Hadith Number 379
Narrated Abu Huraira
The Prophet said, "There was no prophet among the prophets but was given miracles because of which people had security or
had belief, but what I was given was the Divine Inspiration which Allah revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will be more
than those of any other prophet on the Day of Resurrection."

(The same are) those who say: Lo! Allah hath charged us that we believe not in any messenger until he bring us an offering which fire (from heaven) shall devour.Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Messengers came unto you before me with miracles, and with that (very miracle) which ye describe. Why then did ye slay them? (Answer that) if ye are truthful!
And if they deny thee, even so did they deny messengers who were before thee, who came with miracles and with the Psalms and with the Scripture giving light.
The Holy Quran (3:183-184)

We refrain from sending signs (miracles) only because the men of former generations treated them as false. For example, We sent the she-camel to the people of Thamud - a manifest sign - but they laid violent hands on her. We send the signs only by way of warning, and if people reject the sign after receiving it, they are doomed.
The Holy Quran (17:59)

They were convinced in their hearts about the truth of those miracles, yet they denied those signs in their wickedness and pride. So you see, what was the end of those transgressors.
The Holy Quran (27:14)
