Moonsighting Issue

Moonsighting issue is one of the most important issues that the Muslim Ummah is facing nowadays. However, most of the people do not realise that this is one of the Fiqh issues which started off as early as the time of the Sahaba (RA).

Therefore, as most scholars say, the head of the family or the Islamic authority in the region you're living in should be followed in such a case so as to make sure that the Muslims seem united. 

This is because before, the Khalifa would be followed in such cases even though there would be a difference of opinion among the scholars. Similarly, now that there is no Khilafah, it is upto the scholars to keep the Muslims united.
